David Bartoš

David Bartoš (CZ) was born in 1993 in Prostějov, graduated from the Department of Art Education at Palacký University in Olomouc and the Faculty of Fine Arts at the Brno University of Technology. In Olomouc, he continues to study in the Ph.D. program under Prof. Vladimír Havlík, and his dissertation research focuses on conscious and unconscious forms of action art in the educational system of schools in the Czech Republic.

In his work he mostly expresses himself in the form of video, audio, group performances and installations. Thematically, he relates to the analysis or possible deconstruction of social institutional and procedural patterns, such as the family or the principles and forms of education.

In 2016, Bartoš established a site-specific gallery in his hometown in the four-story tower of the Church of St. Cyril and Methodius, later expanding the space to include the attic. The gallery focused on presenting contemporary young artists. In 2020 the gallery ceased operations, but in the same year Bartoš followed up with the establishment of the Basement Project. The organizational-artistic platform with exhibition space aims to provide both an audience and hands-on experience of the art operation to UP students and academics. In addition to institutional curating and production, Bartoš occasionally curates other external exhibition projects.

In 2017, he started working as an author within the artistic duo Michal&David (collaboration with Michal Čepelka), which is a group that moves between humorous concepts in the form of performances and pop music.
